The airport is headquarters to the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces Eastern Command. The airport is also the base for two air regiments and fighter training centre:
The base is home to Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23BN ground attack bombers and Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21. The base is also home to a general purpose transport squadron using Mil Mi-17 (4-6) and stored at one end of the airport.[3]
